Ways for Busy Moms to Stay Healthy at Work

Who has time for healthy living when you’re always busy? When you have a schedule that starts at 5 in the morning and doesn’t end until 10 or later that evening, it may seem like there just isn’t enough time in the day to make your health a priority. Things like exercising, eating healthy snacks, and getting plenty of rest can seem impossible to do. So, naturally, you put off the importance of your health and simply opt for what’s the fastest and most convenient.

Believe it or not, there are busy women who work hard both in and out of the office and still manage to put their health at the top of the list. How do they do it? By learning how to incorporate healthy living tips into their workday.

Park Further Away

Medical experts recommend that the average person walk at least 10,000 steps a day to help manage their weight and burn calories. If you’re working a desk job where you’re sitting for eight hours in a day, this is even more significant. You can add a few hundred steps each day by parking further away from the building.

Ways for Busy Moms to Stay Healthy at Work

Eat Healthy Snacks

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are certainly important to have on a regular basis, but so are snacks. Snacks help to boost your metabolism, fight hunger pains, and give your body the vitamins and nutrients it needs to get through the workday. Instead of running to the vending machine where you’ll likely find a bunch of things you shouldn’t have, opt for healthy snacks. With a little bit of planning, you can buy organic cookies, granola bars, yogurt, fruit, fresh veggie slices, and other healthy treats to eat between meals in the office.

Drink Plenty of Water

Whether your office has a water cooler or you have to bring in water from home, it is important to stay hydrated. Try drinking at least 8 glasses of water throughout the day. If you’re not a fan of water, you can always infuse it with some fruit slices or zero sugar, zero calorie water flavoring solution.

Use the Stairs

Do you work in a multi-level building? If so, you can increase your daily steps and burn a few extra calories by taking the stairs instead of the elevator.

Bring Your Lunch

Here’s a health tip for working mothers that will not only improve your health but will save you money – bringing your own lunch to work. Prepping your own meals reduces the likelihood that you’ll purchase lunch from a fast food restaurant which is filled with carbs, sugar, and bad fats. If you don’t have time during the week, you can use a portion of your weekend to prep meals that are easy to store and bring to work.

Minimize the Stress

There’s no denying that all jobs are stressful at some point. Even if you’re doing what you love there will be days where you’re feeling stressed. It is when this stress is allowed to get out of hand that it causes a problem for you, your health, your career, and your family. Try to keep stress to a minimum by staying organized, keeping up with deadlines, delegating tasks as needed, resolving conflict, and knowing when to talk to management about the issue.

Get Active During Breaks

Everyone is entitled to some form of break throughout their workday. Whether that be a 15-minute break or an hour for lunch you can use this time to your advantage. If there’s a nearby gym, you can go workout for 30 minutes. If there’s a park nearby, go for a walk. As long as you’re up and moving and not sitting at your desk trying to get caught up on assignments you’ll see an improvement in your health.

Mommies, you work too hard not to make health more of a priority. Your spouse and children need you at your best, and quite frankly, so do you. If you’ve found staying healthy to be difficult due to your schedule, then try some of these methods. Each tip helps to improve your health without interfering with your job and will help to make you a better employee, wife, and mother.

  2. I really have a huge appreciation for working moms like you! Aside from taking care of our families, we have to make sure our overall needs are also met. And it’s not that easy!

One thing I can add is that we have to have a regular me-time, like going to a nearby bookshop or cafe, just to relax and regain our sanity after a long at work. 🙂
