If you are still not sure about what features you need, read a few reviews and unboxing posts like this one. These are usually written by people who actually own the type of device you are considering buying. So, reading their reviews gives you an insight into what to expect from a particular type of appliance. It will also help you to understand some of the common problems, so you can avoid buying something that has flaws.

What capacity do you need?

Bear in mind that there is no point in buying a full-size fryer if there is only two of you and you rarely invite friends around for meals. Buying smaller appliances means that you will not have to worry about running out of storage space. They will also use less power, so should be cheaper to use as well as to buy.

Aftercare

It is important to find out the length of the warranty and what it covers. Also, try to find out how good the manufacturer is at giving support. Some are better than others.

Can you buy spare parts?

Being able to buy spare parts can also be important. If you have a food processor with a cracked lid, you may not be able to lock it in place so that you can get the blades spinning. So, you would want to be able to buy a new one.  Otherwise, you would have no choice but to throw away the entire food processor. When it comes to appliances little details can make a huge difference. For example, if you were buying a sandwich maker, you would want to buy one with removable griddle plates. This would make it far easier for you to clean it properly.

Or, if you were buying a blender you may want to store it on your kitchen counter. In which case, you would probably like to be able to push it up against the wall when it is not in use. This would only be possible if it was short enough to slide under your cupboards.
