Broiled Grapefruit with Muscovado and Ginger

Good Morning Sunshine!

Isn’t it nice to wake up to the bright, sweet citrus-y smell that can make you feel energized all day?

It’s the most wonderful smell you can wake up to….really.

..and don’t you just love sugar?

I am crazy about muscovado sugar at this moment. I put it in…coffee, tea and everything else I could think of.

It just makes everything taste better….wonderful-er {is there such a word?}

Muscovado Sugar is minimally processed cane sugar that has a coarse  and sticky texture. It has high molasses content giving a strong flavor and a dark color.

Today, I swore to give up rice and start on my diet. I swear to you, rice just blows me up. The past month that peanutbutter was here on vacation, I ate nothing but rice all day, everyday…

Can you believe I gained 10 lbs? {Or maybe that was 15 and I’m just in denial,hee?}

Anyway, I’ve heard about this thing about grapefruit and weightloss…

Do you think it’s true?

Well, whether it’s true or not, I just thought this might be a good way to jumpstart a diet… I just wished I wasn’t too lazy to segment the grapefruit this morning. It might have been a lot easier to scoop out.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 grapefruit, cut in half and segmented
  • 2 tbsp muscovado sugar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground ginger {I used the bottled powdered ginger but it’s nice to use fresh shredded ginger}

Instructions

  1. Put the halved, segmented grapefruit in a small baking pan.
  2. sprinkle with muscovado sugar and brown sugar
  3. Bake in the oven for 5-7 minutes.
  4. Make sure you put the grapefruit near the source of heat.
  5. Take it out of the oven and enjoy…

  1. Wow, this is something different and new to me. Never heard of broiled grapefruit with muscovado (even though I was thinking of muscovado earlier due to a piaya recipe) and ginger before, but now I know. Thanks to you. 🙂

  2. yes that’s true.. i’ve learned in pharmacognosy that grapefruit blocks certain enzymes that are used in storage of fats and carbohydrates resulting to increase of fats being burn.. but be careful in making grapefruit a part of your daily diet especially when you have other conditions where in you use some medications… it may increase or decrease the potency of that drug

  8. I’ve never broiled a grapefruit but this looks so good.  Old friends of ours visited yesterday and what did they bring?  Grapefruit that they’d picked at Mum’s house.  I’ve got the sugar and the fruit..  today’s the day to try this.  Thanks!

  9. I love the idea of ginger and muscovado sugar on grapefruit. It sounds so delicious, especially broiled as well. I can just imagine how good it smells too! Thank you for sharing this post with the Hearth and Soul blog hop.
