I think for our household, it’s best to leave it up to the professionals. We don’t want to risk spending more money when we damage the upholstery material that’s expensive to begin with.
It’s true!better leave it to the professionals when you’re not sure how to do it.
That vast majority of the time, I would rather pay someone to do it for me. Part of it is that I am really lazy and part is that I ruin just about everything I try to do myself.
Well, that’s a great decision, then.
My husband has decided to do most of the work in our house…the problem is, everything only gets done 90%! It’s so unnerving!! The next big DIY that needs to get done, I’m calling a professional 😉

WOW! I wish I’m also great at DIY.
I love doing DIY but end up getting disappointed when it doesn’t come out exactly like what it suppose to. There’s some things I just wouldn’t bother trying because I know its too difficult but the little things I do try especially for parties. It helps and saves a lot of money!
I’m a DIY gal if it’s a simple project. More like decorative type things but anything big or involving major changes I would rather pay a professional to do it. I just wouldn’t trust myself!

We uaually call professionals for most types of jobs in our house, manily because we are not very handy around the house, other than basic cleanng.

We don’t have any carpets yet, but I’d like to put some around the house at one point just to cozy it up! DIY is always great until you discover you really cant do it yourself!! lol

We are a DIY household. We had wood floors so it’s pretty easy to maintain and we’re pretty handy for most things.
hardwoods are easier to maintain than carpets.. carpets are hard to keep clean.
We aren’t allowed to do our own DIY projects in the home. Darn renters lease and agreements!

If it was up to me we would have our carpet professionally cleaned very often. I hate the thought of what three little boys and two huskies bring in! I’d like to say my skills were up to the job, but they really aren’t!

Most DIY projects seem to be much easier online than when you actually try to do them yourself. I always end up spending more money on DIY than if I would have just hired someone!

I keep trying to get the hall carpet clean (too much traffic right at the front door). It’s the first thing people see when they walk in, ugh. I want wood. 🙂

I am enjoying my hard wood floors in my new house. Carpets can be a pain to keep clean. When i had carpet we would have it deep cleaned professionally every year.
We don’t have a carpet all over the house, just small portions.
I can so identify with this topic … even the example you gave. I once cleaned my own carpet and thought it would be wise to do one extra soiled area over and over and over again. I saturated the padding so badly I couldn’t get all the water out. We finally had to call in the big guns – the kind that clean up after floods. 🙁
That happened to me as well but not with carpet.. a different thing I tried to DIY.
My hubby does all the work here in the house except for one thing, carpentry. As long as he knows how to do it, he does it. And so far so good. Good thing we didn’t need any work that required carpentry yet 😉

I have to admit, I tend to do everything by myself! Even if is something I haven’t got a clue! Don’t know what’s up with that, but leaving some things to the pro’s is definitely a must.

I used to always pay someone to do everything we needed. These days I am slowly learning how to do things for myself.

I usually consider a few things when weighing ether we will do it ourselves or not. I think about our age and our amount of free time versus the costs saved. I also weigh in whether I can live with it not being done FAST enough. Then I also consider is this worth my time. So if it takes me X hours away from my business which makes Y $ an hour then am I really saving money or costing myself money. Typically I often hire out and get a professional to do it.
I agree. you should really think about what it would cost you to DIY it vs. leaving it to professionals.
For me, it depends on what it is. If its something I have no experience it, I’ll leave it to a professional. But I have learned how to do a lot when it comes to construction, plumbing and electricity. Minor things I can do. When it comes to other DIY like crafts, woodworking, making things myself – I am all for that. I would rather save money when I can. I prefer a much more frugal life than most. I won’t ask for help unless I know I need it, and I pretty much know when I will.
I think it really depends on whether you know something about it and would save you money in the long run.
We are not handy AT ALL at our house, Nor do we have time on the weekends. For us, it’s worth is to pay someone.
Sometimes we are just too busy that we don’t have time to DIY at all. That also happens to us.
This is such a great lesson to actually put into practice. Stick to what you do well and hire professionals for things you don’t know how to do.
