Noodle Houses and Ramen Houses has been sprouting like mushrooms left and right lately. Being a noodle fan, it seemed like it is my duty to try them one by one and taste what each place can offer. A couple of weeks ago, I was able to try out Moshi Koshi Noodle Boss at The Annex in SM North EDSA.

Moshi Koshi Noodle Boss makes their own noodles fresh in-store ever single day. This guarantees that you get fresh, good quality, koshi noodles in your bowls. In case you’re wondering what  koshi is, Koshi is to Japanese as al-dente is to Italian. It is that sweet state of a noodle that is chewy and tender, firm but not hard,and with resistance to the bite… just how I like my noodles to be. I think this is also the reason why I love the Udon Noodles more than the Ramen and the Soba, because it tends to be more koshi. Just look at how much thicker it is. Not to mention the beef in the Niku Udon above which is also very tasty!

Ramen is the Chinese-style noodles that we all love which you can have in either Shoyu, Miso , Shio or Shio Butter Corn broth. This is best consumed within seven (7) minutes for best koshi experience. I’m really curious about the Shio Butter Corn Ramen because they said that it tastes like popcorn. I love the idea of a hot popcorn you can slurp.

Soba is thin buckwheat noodles. I’ve tried stir-fried soba noodles or cold soba dishes but I don’t think I’ve had it in soup before. I guess this is maybe due to the fact that it really absorbs liquids quickly and in five (5) minutes loses it’s koshi-ness that there are few serving it in soup.

Just like the Udon Noodles, you can have your Soba Noodles with either of the four toppings: Tempura, Kaki- Age, Kara- Age, and Niku.

If you’re not in the mood for slurping a bowl of good soup, you can also try the Yakisoba {₱155} & Yakiudon {₱140}, they are both stir-fried noodles with pork, vegetables, and special sauces. The yakiudon is topped with Bonito Flakes, though.

This is Moshi Koshi’s bento meal which includes a main dish, four (4) special sidings, miso soup and a bowl of rice. I like their bento container because it’s cute.

Let’s peek inside….

This is the Chicken Teriyaki Bento {₱240} with really tender, juicy chicken teriyaki and sidings of: chicken salad, pickled vegetables, pickled radishes, leafy greens with miso sauce. I think this is really sulit for its price because of all the good things you’re getting plus the portion. The sidings are not permanent, though, it could change over time to provide variety to those who are frequently ordering it.

This is one of the best Gyozas {₱85} I’ve tried! It is not oily and the gyoza wrapper is also koshi because they make their own.

Japanese curry is known to be stronger in flavor and very aromatic. Moshi Koshi’s Katsu Curry {₱275} is mild and yet they have maintained the distinct flavor of what a japanese curry should be. It also has three-colored bell pepper to boast of as garnish when served.

Katsudon {₱180}

Ebi Tempura {₱55/pc}

Kara-Age {₱50/pc}

You can order the Ebi Tempura, Kara-Age and Kaki-age as meals or you can also order them per piece as an extra. Something you would like in addition to, say, maybe your bento or udon bowl.

What you shouldn’t miss though, is the Green Tea Ice Cream{₱65} & Coffee Ice Cream {₱65} which are also a steal for its price. The tub it comes in is quite big and both taste fantastic in their respective flavors. The Green tea Ice Cream has that rich, creamy, grassy, earthy matcha flavor. While the Coffee Ice Cream has that balance of a strong and yet creamy brew.

I’d go back here for my noodle cravings. I love that it has very clean and very zen interiors which is not intimidating unlike other Ramen houses. Plus it gives you value for your money– tastewise, portionwise and qualitywise.
