We had a spontaneous food trip at Ugbo Tondo last Saturday!

If you’re ever in the area, Ugbo Street in Velasquez (near Deca Mall) is your go-to spot for some of the best street food in Manila. If you’re a street food lover like us, you’ll be in for a treat – there’s no shortage of choices, and everything’s just so tempting.

So, here’s what went down on our food adventure:

The first thing that caught our eye was the Tanghulu! For those unfamiliar, it’s fruit coated in hardened sugar syrup. Ykaie got pure strawberries, while Twinkle went for the mixed variety – strawberries, grapes, muscat shine grapes, and mandarin orange. A sweet and refreshing start to the day!

Next, we grabbed some Panipuri. For ₱80, you get five pieces, which was decent, but honestly, it was just okay. Nothing too exciting, but hey, we had to try it!

Then came the Shawarma. The deal was Buy One Take One for ₱100, which sounded like a steal. According to Ykaie though, the taste was just “so-so” — a bit disappointing given the deal, but still a nice option if you’re craving something savory.

My sister who calls herself Anney, who has a serious Takoyaki obsession, couldn’t resist getting some. The takoyaki looked so good while it was being cooked, all crispy on the outside, but when we finally tasted it… not really our fave. But hey, to each their own! On the other hand, I was all in for some Xiao Long Bao—six pieces for ₱120. Now that was delicious!

Of course, Daddydoodledoo wasn’t going to settle for just street food, so we headed over to Mang Rado’s for his ultimate faves: Lechon Kawali and Tumbong Soup. The Lechon Kawali Rice was ₱150, and the Tumbong Soup Rice was ₱140. So good, we were basically fighting for the last bite.

We also couldn’t miss out on the trendy Dubai Chocolate Knafeh with Pistachio and Strawberry for ₱179. It was good, but I was expecting that crunchier texture from the Knafeh. It wasn’t as crispy as I thought, but still worth a try if you’re into trying new sweets.

And of course, by the end of the day, we were in our pambahay, busog (full), and totally content with all the food we’d devoured.

But wait — no meal is complete without dessert, right? We wrapped up our food trip with some ice cream at House of DG. We had the Reese’s and KitKat flavors, both using Big Scoop Ice Cream. Definitely hit the spot!

It was one of those unplanned but super fun days filled with good food, lots of laughs, and full bellies. Can’t wait for the next spontaneous food trip!
