Last Saturday, we had the chance to hang out with Mama Lucy at the brand new Greenhills Mall because she had a party to attend. While she was off doing her thing, we decided to grab lunch at Tiong Bahru, a Singaporean restaurant famous for its Hainanese Chicken Rice. If you’ve been craving comfort food, this place is a winner.
Of course, we had to try the Single Hainanese Chicken Rice (P378.35). The chicken was on the plain side and served at room temperature, but that’s all part of the charm of this dish. The real magic happens with the rice and sauces, and let me tell you, they did not disappoint. The rice was fragrant and perfectly cooked, and the chili, ginger paste, and hoisin sauces really elevated the flavor of the chicken. The chicken itself was boneless, juicy, and tender. Plus, the cucumbers added a nice crunch and freshness to balance everything out. Although it wasn’t in the photo, the soup on the side was super flavorful and a great addition to the meal.

We also went for the Hainanese Chicken Congee (P327), which was exactly what you need when you’re craving something warm and comforting. The congee was velvety smooth and soothing, with tender chunks of chicken scattered throughout. It’s the kind of dish that wraps you in a cozy feeling, perfect for a lazy afternoon or a post-busy-morning meal. I could have had a second bowl!
Assorted Platter
For some variety, we shared the Assorted Platter (P711), which was packed with a fun mix of bites. The tofu was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the chicken feet skin was surprisingly tasty—crispy, chewy, and savory. But the real winner for me was the Squid Tempura—it was like crispy squid balls, light and crunchy on the outside, with that satisfying squid flavor inside. I could easily munch on these all day. Everything on the platter was dipped in sweet chili sauce, which made it even more addictive.

I loved this Lemon Chicken (P378), it was so good! The chicken had a crispy exterior, but it was the lemon sauce that really stole the show. It was perfectly balanced—sweet, tangy, and refreshing without being too overpowering. It’s the kind of dish you keep picking at long after you’ve had enough because it’s just so tasty.
Overall, it was one of those lunches where you can just kick back, enjoy the food, and chat without feeling rushed. Each dish complemented the others so well, and I left feeling completely satisfied. I’m already looking forward to heading back and trying even more dishes from their menu. If you ever find yourself at Greenhills Mall, I definitely recommend stopping by Tiong Bahru for a tasty, no-fuss meal.
