A Taste of Japan in the Heart of BGC: Our Mitsukoshi Mall Food Crawl

Mitsukoshi Mall BGC has undeniably brought a piece of Japan to the bustling metropolis of Manila. This Japanese-inspired mall is a haven for those craving authentic Japanese cuisine and shopping experiences without leaving the country. Our recent visit was a delightful culinary adventure, and I’m excited to share with you our food finds!

Tenya: A Tempura Lover’s Paradise

Mitsukoshi Mall

Twinkle had her order first — syempre Tempura! So we headed to Tenya, a popular Japanese fast-food chain known for its delicious tempura. We opted for the Tempura Tendon. Picture this: a bowl of fluffy rice topped with crispy tempura—shrimp, veggies, you name it—drizzled with a slightly sweet soy sauce. It’s simple but so satisfying. The tempura was light and crunchy, and the sauce tied everything together beautifully. It’s one of those dishes that hits the spot every time.

Kaisendon: A Seafood Extravaganza

Mitsukoshi Mall

I love sushi and maki rolls! My cravings were satisfied at Kaisendon. We indulged Salmon Aburi and Unagi Rolls, both of which were fresh and flavorful. We also had Takoyaki (I don’t know where Daddydoodledoo bought this..LOL) , those adorable little octopus balls that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They came drizzled with a savory sauce and topped with bonito flakes that danced with each bite. The Salmon Aburi which was lightly torched and had this amazing smoky flavor that was just divine.

The unagi roll was a star, too. The grilled eel was so tender and flavorful, and the roll was packed with freshness. Each piece was like a little sushi treasure, and we couldn’t get enough.

Black Bird: Comfort Food with a Twist

Ykaie had these Fried Chicken at Black Bird, a restaurant that effortlessly blends comfort food classics with a modern twist. It was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and perfectly seasoned. She also had the Mac and Cheese (below) which was creamy and rich, with just the right amount of cheese. It was the perfect combination of savory and indulgent.

Sawada Ichigo Café: A Sweet Finale

Mitsukoshi Mall

To cap off our food adventure, we visited Sawada Ichigo Café for a refreshing dessert. We tried their famous Frozen Shaved Japanese Strawberry. It was the perfect dessert—light, refreshing, and just the right amount of sweetness. The strawberries were super fresh, and the shaved ice was so smooth, it practically melted in your mouth. It was a great way to cool down and finish off our day of eating.

Mitsukoshi Mall BGC truly delivered on its promise of offering an authentic Japanese dining experience. With its diverse range of restaurants and food stalls, there’s something to satisfy every palate. If you’re a fan of Japanese cuisine, we highly recommend checking out this hidden gem in BGC! we know we are going back soon!
