The Ultimate Taste Test 2015, this year’s biggest event for foodies and food purveyors happened last weekend. Wanting to be food critics for a day, peanutbutter♥ and I was there the first day. We wouldn’t want to miss trying out those 49 new food flavors!
The Ultimate Taste Test was founded and organized by top food and travel blogger Anton Diaz of Our Awesome Planet.
This year’s event was held at the Glorietta Activity Center, Ayala Center Makati and was sponsored by San Miguel Lifestyle Brews.
San Miguel Lifestyle Brews is composed of three different beers namely: San Miguel Premium All Malt, San Miguel Super Dry, and Cerveza Negra. Included in the UTT Ticket is a bottle of their chosen beer so that a foodie 18 year old and above may enjoy pairing it with some of the food.
I got myself a bottle of Cerveza Negra while peanutbutter♥ chose the Premium All-Malt. San Miguel Cerveza Negra is best paired with desserts or sweet as it is a dark beer with sweet undertones while San Miguel Premium All Malt is best paired with seafood or white meats like chicken as it is less bitter and has a more malty flavor.
I have a sweet tooth so I though I’d really enjoy this year’s food and beer pairing specially because I recently just discovered my newfound love and appreciation for it.
With our San Miguel Lifestyle Brews on hand, we set out to try out the 48 more on our Food Critic Passport. Well, the mind and the tastebuds were willing but our tummies were weak, we weren’t able to finish everything as we were so full by the time we were on our 35th! We still managed to reach until the 40th but that was it. I loved everything but of course, there are some that really stood out and wowed my tastebuds.
Let me share with you those that really had me wanting for more. Here are my Top 10 Picks from my Ultimate Taste Test 2015 experience. This is starting from the one I loved most.
Tarlaquena‘s to-die-for Callos and really creamy Chicken Croquettes. I’m giving them plus points for their presentation too! I love how they served them in cute containers with a cute spoon to match!
Bakmi Nyonya‘s Indonesian Noodles and Satay Babi, their version of pork barbecue. The noodles is quite unique because you eat it separately with the soup.
Sucasa Mexican House‘s Barbacoa Taco and Al Pastor Taco. Both are super delicious!
Kapeng Mainit‘s Matcha Beignets. Truly is the best beignet in Manila!
Kumori‘s Signature Hanjuku Cheese, Krone, and Crabstick Bun.
It went really well with my Cerveza Negra!
Herbs‘ Crispy Deboned Rosemary Chicken and Truffled Potato was also amazing with the San Miguel Premium All malt!
Gelato Lab‘s Matcha Choco Chip and Mango Pudding gelatos are quite amazing too! Perfect palate cleansers while we take a breather from the main courses.
Maricar Reyes-Poon‘s Choco-Liquor Cake was moist, chocolatey, and decadent! It was amazing with my Cerveza Negra.
Portobello‘s Quezo De Bola Ensaymada and Otap were fantastic. The ensaymada was soft and cheesy.
If you like smoked milkfish, you’ll love Fisher Farm‘s version because it’s all belly! I know my daughter will love this.
They also have a Fish Frankfurters that are relatively guilt-free indulgence.
Congratulations Anton Diaz of Our Awesome Planet and San Miguel Lifestyle Brews for a successful Ultimate Taste Test 2015!!
To all food purveyors at the UTT 2015, thank you for letting us taste your masterpieces!
We had such a nice time and we can’t wait for next year’s UTT!
As for San Miguel Lifestyle Brews, I think I’ll see more of you at home…. I’m excited to make my own beer pairings!

Food variety is the answer to this ‘taste test” event which made honesty must be observed. Foodies have different taste for each menu which could give different answers too.
