I’ve been seeing these square gems called Toasted Pastillas in instagram, facebook and twitter so much lately. I just had to check it out and see what the fuss is all about. I mean, I love pastillas but I’m not THAT crazy about it.

I thought a pastillas is just pastillas. It is sweet milk candy and one that I could surely make at home.

I searched for a reseller online and ordered. It was shipped to me after 3 days. According to their Facebook Page, Taste n See Toasted Pastillas is made from a candy store in Malolos, Bulacan.

You can immediately see from outside the plactic bag why these are called such. It is coated in brown sugar and toasted until the sugar is just a little burned or has just tuned Amber. You’ll immediately get a whiff of the creamy and caramelly aroma of these milk candies, when you open the bag. That delicious smell surely won’t stop you from getting a piece from the bagĀ  and putting it into your mouth.

It tastes like Leche Flan Candy! It was hard stopping on your first bite. Before I knew it, I was already eating halfway through the bag. I finished the whole thing — story of my life.

I don’t think I’ve seen my last share of these Toasted Pastillas. Will order more next time and give to friends.

Have you tried these square beauties yet? What do you think about it?
