Throughout my childhood up until I became an adult, I’ve had a lot of different hobbies. I wrote fiction stories, I collected marvel cards, I played RPG, I dabbled in drawings and artworks — but none of these things had changed my life the way blogging did. I found blogging in 2005 and I could truly say that this has changed my life over the course of eight years and it has given me so much satisfaction that I could never EVER live without it. This is one of the reasons why I recommend this hobby to friends and relatives. In fact, I think I’ve more than encouraged them to embrace this hobby that they started asking me questions on how to start a blog.
Here’s what I tell them:
- Before you can start blogging, the first thing you would need is a computer or a laptop and an internet service provider. A slow and intermittent internet connection would just make you too lazy to blog and would discourage frequent posting. Hook up with a fast and reliable broadband service . Aside from being fast, they provide deals that are really affordable which wouldn’t leave you broke. A hobby that takes up your life’s savings is a no no.
- Decide on what you want to blog about. It has to be something that you are passionate about. Your blog would run on your passion, on something that you have a lot of experience in…. a subject that your future readers could relate to. You’ll never run out of things to say about something you love.
- Decide on what to name your blog and if you’re getting your own domain name. Think if you want free hosting or host the blog yourself. There are many free blog platforms on the www like Blogger or WordPress which you could use .
- Create good, original content that people would want to read or YOU would want to go back to. Put pictures so readers can see what you’re talking about.
I think these pretty much covers starting a blog ….. the rest is up to them.

Interesting you played RPG as well, I love and played DND, Robotech and Marvel Superheroes RPGs
I agree and good tips.
I agree. Although I have one question though, do you think to stick in one particular topic for a blog? Like if it was food, all about food only or can you do a much wider topic like food, books, and travel all at the same time? What do you think? And how often do you update your blog?
Great advice!!
I must agree, I love blogging a lot as well.
I blog to pass time and have fun:) My blog is a mix of everything since I can’t really handle maintaining multiple blogs at the same time.
