A Sweet and Healthy Life with SPLENDA

Sweet and healthy doesn’t seem to go together in a phrase and a sentence. That is because when we think about the word sweet, what usually comes to mind are chocolates, cakes, cookies and milkshakes.

We think about calories and weight gain.

Lucky for us, we can now enjoy our sweets without the guilt…

FACT: This is how my morning starts each and every single day.

My favorite mug, my favorite brand of coffee and my favorite brand of sweetener.

I’ve been using Splenda for  a couple of years now. It has successfully replaced sugar in my life ever since I had the realization that either I had to make healthier choices, or my pants are going to hate me for the rest of my life for eating too much sweets!

You see, I have a sweet tooth  {I put two packets of Splenda in a cup of coffee}…

And NO, I couldn’t possibly give up my cakes, cookies, and my cheesecakes!

SPLENDA made it possible for me to make baked goodies without compromising the taste. And that’s what I love about it! It is the only brand of sweetener that comes closest to the taste of sugar without the bitter aftertaste other sweeteners has.

It almost has zero calories too! Isn’t that what we’re wishing for? Calories that doesn’t exist in the food that we eat?

My family has a history of diabetes. By using SPLENDA in the food that I prepare everyday, we get to limit our sugar intake without sacrificing the taste of our food.

I use it in viands and non-dessert dishes that needs a sprinkling of sugar too! Check out my Marinara Sauce and this Chicken Tocino Recipe.

Christmas couldn’t possible come and go without Gingerbread cookies and Gingerbread cupcakes. This time around, I’m controlling my family’s sugar intake by replacing the sugar in the recipe with Splenda.

It tasted the same, it just gave a lighter color because Splenda replaced brown sugar.

Try it out for yourself.

Gingerbread Cupcakes

Ingredients:

½ cup canola oil
½ cup SPLENDA
½ cup molasses
1 egg, room temp and beaten
1-½ cup flour
½ tbsp ground ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
¼ teaspoon salt
⅛ teaspoon ground cloves
½ cup boiling water
½ tbsp baking soda
butter cream {whatever flavor you want}

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350° and line muffin tins with baking cups.
  • In mixing bowl, using whisk attachment, combine oil, sugar, and molasses; then add beaten egg until well mixed.
  • In a medium bowl whisk flour, ginger, cinnamon, salt, and cloves. Whisk into molasses mixture until well combined.
  • Boil water and remove from heat. Add baking soda and whisk into batter.
  • Fill baking cups 2/3 full and bake for 25 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean when inserted. Set aside to cool.
  • Top with butter cream. Top with gingerbread man cookie.

Why eat bland food when we can choose to live healthy without giving up on the sweet taste we love?

  1. Thanks for sharing Peach! I have a sweet tooth too.. but after our C-lium challenge, I managed to lessen my sugar from 2 teaspoon to just one 🙂

  2. this is actually the first time I’ve head about Slenda. am not really too fond of sugar, but taking less + less of it each day can really be quite beneficial to us in the long run, especially in my case with diabetes running in our blood…
