Learning About Diabetes

It’s hard to control what you eat. I have a sweet tooth. It’s harder for me control the sweets I eat, specially chocolate. But I really have to take reigns on my sweet tooth because I belong to a family with Diabetes. Both my parents have Type 2 Diabetes. My brother has Type 2 Diabetes as well. I can see how hard it is for them when their blood sugar suddenly rise or drop.

One of the steps that we took was to change our daily menu. It was quite a struggle for my father, at first, because he was adapting to a change to cope up with an illness. We had to make sensible and wise food choices for him because he cannot do it himself. If we let him decide what food to eat, he will more likely eat the fatty and sugary food he used to eat.

Reading Health Facts about Diabetes and keeping a journal to monitor how my father responds to it daily helped us a lot in learning how to maintain and control his illness.
