Aratiles/ Jamaican Cherry

There used to be an Aratiles tree in the house in front of ours. During Summertime, it bears lots of fruits and kids usually swarm over that tree and pick the little red cherries. These little red cherries contains lots of tiny seeds and tastes a little bit like cotton candy. It is very sweet and juicy.

My grandma makes a mean ice candy with these sweet red pearls. Aratiles is also known as Jamaican cherry, Panama berry or Singapore cherry. There are not so many trees of this fruit here in the city nowadays and you won’t find them in the local market either.
