I think its time to post more Filipino street foods again. There are new vendors in our neighborhood! LOL!

Suman sa Lihiya

Suman sa Lihiya is made from glutinous rice treated with lye water, wrapped in banana leaves and boiled for two hours. It is served with freshly grated coconut and sugar on top. Sometimes it also served with  latik or coconut milk that has been browned due to extended cooking.

A suman vendor always pass by our street every morning carrying this bamboo tray[bilao]full of Suman. My mom and my daughter loves to buy suman and they either eat it for breakfast or afternoon snack.

Here is the suman, topped with freshly grated coconut and sugar. Two of these costs P12/ $0.26. The glutinous rice cake acquired its green color from the banana leaves it was wrapped in.
