I am an Advocate of Learning Through PLAY. Nowadays, it seems like kids doesn’t get enough of outdoor play. Children are either stuck playing computer games or Tablet games OR they are stuck attending lesson and extra-curricular activities.

That is why I make it a point that I take Ykaie to an outdoor playground….

I let them dance silly and bask in the rain….

I let them have fun…

I also let Ykaie and my nieces enjoy themselves in an indoor playground….

Because I know that Hindi lang Laro ang Laro…That there’s more to play than fun and games. That this is one of the factors that molds a child into what she is going to be in the future.

That it teaches them balance, strategy, analogy, concentration, coordination and teamwork — all while having the time of their lives.

Launched in partnership with the Department of Education, Play Pilipinas and Johnson and Johnson Philippines, the campaign called “Di Lang Laro ang Laro” advocates for the role of 1 hour of daily active play in children’s health and holistic development.

This is aligned with UNICEF’s Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) program, which advocates learning through play in education centers throughout the Philippines for children, as well as with the World Health Organization’s recommendation that children between the ages of 5 and 17 should have at least 60 minutes of physical play daily for proper physical and mental development.

It was hosted by non-other than Kuya Bodjie Pascua from the iconic children’s show Batibot that triggered early memories of play among the guests.

We were also informed about the campaign’s sustaining activities, part of which is the 365 Days of Play game where parents and children are encouraged to submit their own original active play games. Chosen entries will be posted on the Johnson’s Baby Facebook page, facebook.com/johnsonsbabyphilippines.

“We at Johnson and Johnson commit to sustaining this advocacy. Together with Play Pilipinas, we are building “Palarujuan” as a reminder that play has huge benefits on our children’s development,” said Sean Zantua, HR and CSR Director of Johnson and Johnson Philippines. “We also invite our guests and their children to submit their entries for the 365 Days of Play game.”

I also joined a “play” activity headed by Ms. Mae. We played Dr. Kwak Kwak and sang some silly songs which brought memories of childhood.

  1. Oh Peachkins – I SO agree! There are way too many kids that don’t play anymore.  They go to this lesson, another practice session followed by another lesson. What has happened to just going to the park and playing with your friends! I’m so glad to see a young mother doing just that with her kids and being an advocate for all children! You go girl!

  2. Agree! I always make it a point that my little boy plays outside such he will not just be hooked on TV and computer. Its important for me that he will enjoy his childhood with physical plays.

  3. Even in the school I work at, teacher advocate learning through play.  It’s something we adults should do more often too, I guess- play 🙂

  4. What a fun event! Too bad I missed it because I had work that day. When time permits, we take Justin to an outdoor playground, too. His current favorite is Market Market because he likes riding a motorbike and mingling with other kids.
